Yes if it's not already marked as 3rd gen Ryzen compatible.

Unfortunately yes, It will not work. I learned that the hard way.
Unless, in your board is mentioned 3rd Gen Ryzen Compatible.

The good news is, if you happen to have a first or second gen Ryzen CPU, you can use it to update bios.
