Will I need a new OS when replacing a hard drive?

Hello,
My hard drive died a couple of days ago and I was wondering if the only way to get the operating system back onto a new one is to purchase a new copy? Kinda new to this so am unsure what to do since it didn't come with any sort of OS recovery cd when I bought it. Thanks so much in advance.

It depends, you could ask your vendor/PC maker for a recovery disk.
If not you might be out of luck.

I always buy OEM better price, no unneeded box to throw away.

Even with that I always make a recovery disk after install and then a backup to be safe
in the event that anything fails at any point in the future.

You should do the same to avoid problems like this in the future.

If mobo is broken, than u need to call them and they will OK it over the phone.
