By 2k resolution, you mean 1080p? No you will never need more than 6gb, even for 4k you most likely will never need more than 6gb. This is more marketing than real value.

woops i didnt know 2k means 1080p! then i mean 1440p , will 6gb of vram be enough for 1440p gaming with max setting for the next 4-5 year ?

Yeah, it will be. Always most likely, problems is that in 5 years the games will be more demanding and not in the VRAM department. The GPUs themselves will be lower. That's why for 1440p, just get 1 gtx 980ti now, it will do everything for the next 2 years and then once you find it insufficient, either upgrade to newer technology or find an old gtx 980ti cheaper. No point in getting two of them for 1440p.
