[SOLVED] Will I need to update BIOS for Ryzen 5 3600 on new motherboard ?

Solution
But the 3600 is a 5 series cpu isn't it? So will i still have to update it as bios is for 3000 series from the factory?
Thanks.
MAX boards are made for all Ryzen 3000 CPU's so it will operate out-of-the box. I suggest updating BIOS to 7B85v22 though to get AGESA 1.0.0.6 but no further. BIOS' after that are intended for Ryzen 5000 CPU's.

Hopefully it comes with 7B85v22 and you'll be good-to-go so check that first.
The MAX range of boards all had BIOS updates installed from the factory in order for people to drop in RyZen 3000 series processors onto the board. You should be fine.

Solution
3600 is Zen 2, Series 5 is Zen 3.
...
I think by Series OP could mean model series: "Ryzen 5 3600" with 3800's being Ryzen 7 series and 3900's & 3950's both Ryzen 9 series.

Zen 3 = Ryzen 5000 CPU's = Gen 4.
Zen 2 = Ryzen 3000 CPU's = Gen 3.

Not to be pedantic, but it's already confusing as heck so if he really means series "5000" that would be correct but not commonly used to refer to it and just make it even more confusing!

I sometimes call the 5000's CPU's the 5 Series, myself.
I only knew 3600 was Zen 2 as I looked up mine earlier tonight.
Just wait till AMD's next release. I was watching some 'leaks' on MLiD youtube channel and he's speculating they may come out with a Zen 3+ before Zen4. The confusion with model numbering could be epic with people talking past each other on forums all the time.

I wonder if they use the XT name again, just to add the " is it a GPU or CPU" question into mix. 5800XT... what is it?

These number systems need to restart. How big will the intel ones get before they go, okay, 99999K is a little silly.
