Will I see a change in performance? (GT 610 to HD 7750)

Hi there,

I've recently made plans to buy a new GPU and after discussing it with some friends, I setlled on a Radeon HD 7750. I'm currently using a second hand office PC I got from a friend HP DC7900 Small Form Factor) but replaced the GPU with a GT 610. I know that this computer can handle the 7750, but I want to know how much of an increase in performance (and/or what games I will be able to run) I will get. I'm not expecting much. The only reason I'm buying this card is that I plan to use it the build that I'm planning for later on this year. I'll post my other specs below.

P.S I'd be happy just to be able to run Battlefield 3 (for example) without setting my resolution down to 800x600 or something horrible.

Specs:

CPU - Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Memory - 4 GB (3.6 usable apparently)
GPU - GeForce GT 610
PSU - Most likely a 240 watt (from what I can tell)

The 7750 is a tad bit faster.

Your system is a little old, But Im sure you already know that. Your probably still going to have to reduce the Resolution a bit.

A bit of a catch 22. The PSU is weak. I would recommend a 7770 but that PSU wont be able to handle it. But Your using the card for a future build...Hmm

And If your curious, Only 3.6GB of your RAM is usable cause your running a 32Bit OS

Yeah, Id get the 7750, better than what you have

First off, the amount of usable ram being less than your total ram is because it has a 32 bit operating system on it. In a 32 bit operating system, you can only have 3.6GB of memory, and XP at least counted video card ram toward that total I think. So you may want to upgrade it to 64 bit windows at some point, especially if you notice issues.

That cpu is not going to get you but so far. However, it's better than nothing, and that GPU isn't so powerful that it would bottleneck it horribly. You will get medium settings is most things, with some games being a little higher if they are not particularly CPU heavy. Also, that card will eventually support mantle, which looks like it might help CPU bound situations like yours. I would expect BF4 to be perfectly playable at 1080p medium settings.

Just a side note, when you run your resolution that low, you are actually giving yourself a CPU bottleneck. You'd be better served by something 720p or higher. Personally, I like to play at the native resolution of the monitor and turn settings down to get good frame rates, but that is not always an option I know.

Thanks! And yeah, I know it's outdated but I've only just started to generate my own income. It's served me well over tha years.And I should've elaborated, I'll be using it temporarily in my new build until I save up for a new card (most likely the 7850)
