ok so right now i have a computer HP Z400 LGA1366 with a xeon w3565 at stock speeds which is similar in specs to an i7 960. and im wondering i can buy a xeon W3690 which is the same as an i7 990X for around 100$ im wondering will this be a good performance increase gaming wise below is the info you may need

current specs
w3565,16 gigs ddr3 ram,sapphire platinum RX470 4GB, gaming at 1080p below is a list of the games i play

doom 4,the witcher 3,battlefield 1, call of duty WW2,GTA5

i was told i could use the intel XTU utility to easily overclock the cpu to 4GHz would i see a decent performance increase if i upgrade to the 3690 in terms of stock speed as well as if i overclock it?

cant afford a new pc build so this pc has to last me the next 4-6 years before i can afford to upgrade to a better pc

Pentium G4560 with gtx 1050 Ti gives you constant 60fps
your RX 470 is even better.

The only problem is that you will need to replace your RAM which are rather expensive atm
You may need to spend about 320 bucks to upgrade CPU, mobo and RAM

Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400
Total: $319.75

Sorry but that PCGamer bench is pretty useless. Digital Foundry did a much better job at detailing how the G4560 performs in games with various GPU's.

Try to stay relevant to the thread by the way. If you directly compared to the G4560 to the W3565 or the 3690, that's ok.

It's not easy to find direct comparison between a Xeon from 2009 and a Kabylake Pentium...
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Xeon-W3565-vs-Intel-Pentium-G4560/m6324vs3892
or an old thread from 2013 comparing the Xeon with a SandyBridge 2500K:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1916675/xeon-w3530-w3565-2500k.html

but I think my argument is valid. IF the Pentium compares favorably to even a i7 5930K then there is no point in for the OP to upgrade to another old Bloomfield Xeon that actually cost more than the Kabylake Pentium

Any serious CPU upgrade would mean moving away from LGA1366 to a new platform.. The best you can do on your current platform in CPU is an i7-990X Extreme Edition. But it's not really going to do much for you in terms of gaming performance.. A high end GPU would do more.
