Whether or not the image QUALITY will be better depends on what kind of monitor you get. If you have a TN panel now and you get another TN panel, then the visual quality is probably not going to be much different if it is the same resolution and refresh rate.

If you get a unit that has a higher resolution (Which is going to increase the demand on your graphics card, so you will likely see fewer FPS than with a lower resolution) then things are going to LOOK a lot better in some cases. If you get one with a higher refresh rate you will have a SMOOTHER image while gaming, but again, you are going to need to be able to provide somewhere near the same FPS as your refresh rate or you will be likely to see an increase in tearing.

For a GTX...
Hi :)

The image quality will primarily depend on the resolution of the monitor. A 2014 1080p monitor will look the same as a 2018 1080p monitor all things being equal.

The main difference of upgrading to a newer monitor will most likely be the monitor refresh rate for example your old monitor was a 60hz monitor & you upgrade to a 144hz monitor - in such an instance there will be a difference in terms of how smooth the gameplay feels especially in first person shooter games like CSGO, Battlefield etc.

As for image quality, it depends on whether you are upgrading your resolution as well, there are 1080p, 1440p & 4k monitor resolutions. Going from a 1080p to a 1440p offers a significant difference in image quality, but remember that the higher resolution you go the better your GPU needs to be.

For a GTX 1060 I would stick to a 1080p monitor, maybe just find a good monitor with 144hz refresh rate. Go to amazon & search 1080p 144hz gaming monitor & look through the results, check for 'best seller' & specials, also look at reviews.

All the best

For a GTX 1060 I wouldn't go above a 1080p monitor regardless of what the rest of your hardware is unless you don't mind playing at rather lower quality settings. If you play at anything above medium settings, I'd avoid 1440p or 4k.

If you get a monitor with a lower grey to grey response time, say 1ms, and your current unit has a 5ms response time, then you will much less input lag and will show things almost in real time. Lower response times are generally favorable regardless of what resolution or refresh rate you have and whether you have a low end card or a flagship model.

TN panels using don't look at good as an IPS panel. Again, it probably matters on the model though as a very good TN panel might look better than a really crappy IPS panel. Usually though, any decent IPS panel will have better clarity, contrast, color reproduction and viewing angles.

Monitors are one area where the amount you spend really is almost directly related to the quality of what you get although sales, older models that have dropped in price or are being cleared out to make room for newer models and various other market factors might all make that arguable in some cases.

What is the maximum amount you can afford to throw at a new monitor and what is the model of your current monitor?
