Hello I'm a newbie and I can't find any resources for my problem.
I am currently using Asrock B450 Steel Legend and Ryzen 7 2700. I am planning to buy Ryzen 5 3600.
Can I update the bios without any processor placed in the mobo?
And if I am done updating the bios, can I still use the Ryzen 7 2700 on that mobo? Some people told me that the second gen won't be read by the mobo anymore.. Please enlighten me. Thank you.

Solution
This issue ONLY applies to SOME motherboards, and the removal of the microcode support is ONLY for the lower end processors like the Athlon, not for Ryzen 3, 5 or 7 processors. You will not lose the ability to use your Ryzen 7 2700.

As for the BIOS update without a CPU installed, no, your board does not have BIOS flashback.

Solution
What are waiting for, you already have the 2700 just update the bios for 3rd gen ryzen and slot the 3600 in

You might run into problems after updating bios for 3rd gen ryzen, you should check with asrock forums or similar info about running 2700 with the newest bios for that board
