Hey guys.

I had problems with my z77 mini ITX motherboard, and it's really hard for me to find a replacement for it(in fact I couldn't find it here in Australia). So I've decided to buy a new mobo + CPU.

The question is, will overclocked i54690k catch up with stock i74790k in gaming and video editing?? (Since some games already utilized hyper threading and most likely upcoming games will). If yes, at what clocks rate will the i54690k keeping up with the stock i74790k? if no, can you please explain it why??

Btw, I'm using GTX 980.

Thanks :)

No solid answers available. When fully used, hyperthreading at most will give 30% more speed. Very few games see this improvement now, more in the future. Video editors will see this value, more or less. 4690K's tend to overclock to 4.2 to 4.4GHz at least. The 4790K is 4GHz stock. So a heavily overclocked 4690K can beat a 4790K in gaming most all the time. For video editing, the 4790K will beat. Of course, if you overclock the 4790K the story is different.

As one said, very little to ZERO difference between i5 and i7 in gaming. Look at gaming benchmarks for proof. As for video, that may not be that much difference, but better performance for the i7. Again look at benchmarks for proof.
Overclocking might save 1-2 seconds in video or 5-10 fps in games (humans will NOT notice the difference).
