Will increasing my RAM reduce lag?

So, I have a laptop which I use for gaming (The specs aren't very good), I play games like Starbound, Minecraft, Rocket League, TF2 and more but everytime I play I seem to have a lot of lag problems (Especially Starbound and Minecraft where the world doesn't load and just has extreme spikes) according to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri I can run them without huge problems so I came to the conclusion of upgrading my 4 gigs to 8 gigs (Most of the time I have 50% of my RAM free when I'm not in games due to Skype, Discord and other things) but I'm not sure if it will help.

My specs are:
Intel Core i7-4500U 1.8GHz (Turbo boost up to 3.0GHz)
AMD Radeon HD 8670M 1G VRAM
4GB DDR4 L RAM

To see if RAM is actually the problem, you'll have to monitor your usage while running Minecraft, Starbound, etc. Use Task Manager or something like MSI Afterburner to monitor your RAM usage while you play to get a handle on whether or not you're running out of memory.

Unlike Gam3r01, I'm inclined to blame that dual core CPU. IIRC, Minecraft can be really hard on CPUs especially at higher settings.

Ram is cheap, it couldn't hurt to add more.

Really, though, consider replacing the hard drive with a ssd.
Everything will be so much quicker.
Can't hurt games either. Checkpoints will be faster. Level loads and testure loads will be faster.
