Will Intel 8-series boards support Broadwell?

Rumors last year said the Haswell refresh would not only NOT work on 8-series boards (such as Z87, H87, H81, B85) but that the Haswell-R would also be 14nm. We know that those rumors were completely false and that the Devil's Canyon chips all work just fine on 8-series boards with a simple BIOS update. The only thing that I am still unsure of from those rumors is if Broadwell will work on 8-series boards or not. From what it appears, the only major difference is M.2 between 8 and 9-series. Did anything actually change in the chipset that would make 14nm Broadwell not work on an 8-series or are they both the same?

That is the same reasons they said the Haswell refresh wouldn't work on 8-series. Something about needing a new power supply for VCCST and a V_PROC_IO for 1.05V as well as THRMTRIP. Then, after the refresh chips came out and they realized that they worked on 8-series boards, the new reasoning was that Broadwell would require not only the PSUs to be designed to the above standards, but also the motherboard. All these initial rumors came out in late 2013 and early 2014 before Haswell refresh came out. Most people were under the impression that the refresh chips were going to be 14nm. There really hasn't been much info on the subject since then.
