Will Intels 8 core cpu's have a new specific motherboard?

I've heard the consumer 8 core processors are due for release at the end of this year, and eventually I'd like to upgrade if the prices drop, though that'll probably be quite a while I'm guessing.

My current motherboard is dying (as in half the ram slots don't work and it's started occasionally freezing when both the gpu and ram are under heavy load at the same time), so sometime soon I could do with getting a new one.

Will these new processors likely have some new form of motherboard, and if so, what should I look out for to get something that'd be compatible?

Yes the will have, they are on the 2011 Socket on the X99 Chipset.
I don't know if the current ones will be compatible. But anything on that platform is overkill for gaming.
I'd personally wait for the new Haswells.

IIRC they aren't compatible with any current platform.

2011v3 or something.

Thanks, I will be doing a bit of gaming but it's not the reason I'm after it, should I just look out for X99 in the motherboard specs? And I can live with the motherboard for now I guess, it's just annoying that if I feel like playing a game while waiting for something to render, it'll kill my whole system

Also, one more thing, I've currently got triple channel ram, is this more cpu or motherboard specific?

CPU+Mobo need to match. X99 is compatible with nothing but intel's brand new chips.

X58 is the only consumer platform that uses triple channel RAM; you'll need an X58/LGA1366 board to be able to use your existing CPU. Those are basically discontinued.

Ah right thanks, guess I'll have to buy them both at the same time then. Just say I was to upgrade the ram before then, would it be a better idea just to get 4 sticks of dual channel so I don't end up wasting anything when I eventually upgrade?
