Will it run a 1080 ti?

Hey guys. I appologise for the over asked question. I'm relatively new to PC gaming and parts etc. I'm looking at upgrading my PC. I like the look of the 1080, but I was wondering if the 1080 ti would work on the system I have at the moment. (I plan to upgrade the cpu at a later date). I have:

Intel core I5 6500
Gigabyte z170 K3atx motherboard
16gb ram
And 600w power supply
Gtx970 at the moment

Thanks in advance.

Solution

Ouch!

This is the weakest link to running a 1080ti. super-cheap power supplies tend to tell you they can deliver something they can't deliver cleanly and in spec, if they can deliver it at all. Most Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, and Silverstone PSUs are the ones that are the better ones to go with as they tend to deliver what they promise, cleanly, within specs, and safely. They can have their bad performers too, but overall, most models deliver.

How much power does this promise to deliver?

Then it will not. It's a cheap crap PSU and you will need to get a better and proper quality PSU.
In case of a GTX 1080TI, running a $800 GPU with a below $30 PSU, No, just no.

Doesn't matter what it promise to deliver. Never pair a cheap crappy PSU with those expensive GPUs. When that PSU dies, it will almost certainly kill his GPU as well.

You will need something like a Corsair RMx series, EVGA Supernova G2 series or Seasonic Focus series.

Cheers guys, as I say I'm pretty new to this and don't really know the proper brands, configurations etc. So if I were to change the power supply to something decent then the rest should work fine for the time being?

Yes, but just note that the 6500 CPU is probably going to bottleneck the GTX 1080TI. If you are only playing at 1080p 60Hz, a GTX 1070 will be more than enough.

Yes. With a good PSU in place, of the proper wattage (without overclocking, 550-650W should be enough.) It should work fine, overall, for the life of your build. The i5 will bottleneck, keeping the 1080ti from hitting its max in higher resolutions. At 1080p a 1070 will do excellent with high frame rates AND ultra-level detail (1080 is overkill at that resolution.) At 1440p, the 1070 will still work, but a GTX1080 or better will deliver the highest frame rates at ultra-level detail.
