Hello all.

OK I have 3 oculus rifts at home. 2 are connected to high speed gaming rigs. No Issues.

My grandson keeps asking me to hook up the 3rd rift. This rig was my sons gaming rig for the last 4 years before upgrading his to a Ryzen. I had a rift hooked up to it for a while with some lag......

specs:
FX 6300
16 gb ddr 3
rx 560 4gb i think
ssd/hdd
550 psu

So the 6300 will stay.
Would it make much of a difference (less lag or no lag) to keep the 560 or a 1060 3gb?

Just looking for some opinions......

Both the CPU and GPU are too weak for the Oculus to run anywhere near its capability. It would be a super laggy mess in lots of games.

You're going to want to upgrade those. Even going up to an FX 8350 you might not get quite enough performance, but that is at least worth a shot, and surprisingly cheap. For a less expensive GPU the GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480/580 would be a good budget fit. The 1060 3GB is a cut down 1060 6GB and not just in RAM. It is actually a cut down GPU core as well. I'd pick the RX 570 over the 1060 3GB, as it is a less expensive but better performing GPU.

Ideally you need a full system overhaul. Something like a Ryzen 3 2200G or 3200G would be enough CPU power for a good experience. For graphics the 1060 6GB, RX 580, or more ideally a GTX 1070 or Vega 56 would put you in a good spot for smoother VR experiences.
