Hello. I am building a new pc and was wondering will it work if I removed my old pc's hdd and put it in my new pc. I dont know what hdd I am currently using but if it is comaptible will it work and do I need to buy a new windows 😀?

Solution
That depends on the connector for the hard drive. Older drives use the PATA connector:

and the new ones use SATA:
https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Serial_ATA

Depending on the connector that your HDD uses and the motherboard you wish to purchase, it depends on whether you can use the old HDD. Newer motherboards only support SATA, thus if your HDD is PATA, then the short answer is no, else yes. As for new Windows, if you're using Win 7, then you need to because Win 7 links the OS to your mobo.

Do you know if you have an OEM version or retail version of Windows 7?
