Hi, I have an amd a6 6400k on an asrock fm2a58m-hd+ r2.0 motherboard, will an ASUS R7 260x work with my PC? Any other ideas that maybe better in the same range?

There's no reason why that card wouldn't work. You might want to consider a newer generation of graphics card though. Say something like the RX-550.
