so i was wondering if a xeon e3 1240 v2 work on an asus p8z77-v lx but this cpu is not listed on the cpu support list but it use the same socket and there is other motherboards with the same chipset have it listed so will it work?

It only supports up to an I7.

so the xeon will not work

EDIT****I didn't see those few Xeon's listed towards the bottom. It may work it may not. The E3 1230 and E3 12 45 is supported but it doesn't mention the E3 1240. Only real way to know is to flash the BIOS to the most recent update and try it.

Follow the link I posted earlier, it's a CPU Z validated screenshot which means it works and should also work for the OP.
