[SOLVED] Will KVM switches work when only 1 system is online?

Im keen to buy a KVM switch to use between my laptop and my desktop PC

At the moment, I have to unplug my mouse and keyboard from one system and plug it into another to use it

I want a KVM switch to get over that hurdle

My question now is, do KVM switches work when only one system is up/online/powered on? Will it automatically divert its signal and the components plugged into it to that system? or do 2 systems have to be online in order for a KVM system to work?

They have buttons to switch between your systems and yes it will work with just one system connected
