Hi all.
I got my girlfriend an early 2011 Macbook Pro (2.0 Ghz, I7, quad-core, 500gb hard, etc.) I'm thinking about upgrading her hard drive to a 750gb. I also myself have a 2009 Macbook (2.26 Ghz, dual-core, 250gb hard). My question is this: If I upgraded the Macbook Pro's drive, could my white Macbook take the 500gb left over? I'm in need of some more space and this would be a great recycle, provided that it's actually possible.
I've got my eye on a 750-7200rpm Seagate that would fit into either computer, but since she's an animator, I want her to have as much space as she can.

Solution
I am pretty sure they have the same drives. they are both 2.5" laptop drives.
I was able to use my macbook pro's HDD into a friend's white macbook.
Make sure you use time machine to back up your current drive, this way you can restore everything to your new HDD.
Good luck

You can replace the 250 GB hard drive with the 500, but not add another. You might have to reinstall MacOS on that drive. If you haven't backed up your info to an external drive you'll need to get the data off the 250 GB HDD; you can use a SAYA to USB converter or make the 250 into an external hard drive by installing it into an external enclosure.

Does it even back up the OS? I tried doing all this once on my old eMac, and I lost just about everything. Of course, this was back in Tiger/Leopard days, and I didn't have the disk anymore. Now I'm just frightened that either of us will lose our Lion.

I'm still kinda shady on how to do it all when it comes down to saving the MBP's 500gb info and transferring it all to the new 750 HDD. I can wrap my mind around saving the white Macbook's 250gb info to time machine/external hard drive, installing the new-to-me 500 HDD and clearing it completely using disk utility. But then I get hazy again on using time machine to put the stuff from the 250 onto the 500 HDD. Sorry, but as I've never done this before, this seems like a mind-fcuk to me! :pt1cable: I'm checking out ifixit.com, but this is the kinda stuff you just don't wanna mess up. Do you know of any other more comprehensive manuals to use? I think I have an enclosure, but I don't know if either hard drive would fit into it and I wouldn't know how to use it even if it did. It was given to me.
