Will my computer run battleifield 4 on ultra excluding 4xmsaa? What fps?

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card

yeah i was looking at that and asked a question about it in another thread =( apparently it is really close as u just said. should i return and it and get like 600 watts or should i be ok. i dont plan on upgrading soon. also how close am i to capping?

it shows how much the 280x draws in terms of power, in gaming it can draw over 200W, and I've seen that the Sapphire Toxic model can draw over 400W (for the whole system i mean)

you SHOULD be fine with your PSU (500W at >80% efficiency), since your whole system will maybe draw 300-350W while gaming, but it's still cutting it close I think, you may be fine if you don't OC anything and if you maintain your PC well.

But returning it and getting a solid XFX 550W/Seasonic 520W will probably be a bit safer, it just depends on if you think the hassle and the money is worth the overhead, I mean your PC should still perform as expected, it's not going to malfunction or shut down or anything since a 500W rating is indeed enough

What u said was very helpful! Ill see how it does for the first few weeks and if it isnt doing well ill get what u recommended or more.
Also im not really smart about computer watts etc. why is it bad to be close to the cap? What can happen if it goes over?

what happens when it goes over is that the system will try to pull more power from the PSU, and the PSU is unable to keep up or even fails because it's pulling too much from the wall.

It's not just about the Watts though, that's just how much power the PSU is rated to pull from the wall (after doing the math with the efficiency), some quality PSUs from certain manufacturers can actually go over that with little problem (though it's generally not recommended)
Other factors include manufacturing quality, that's when you look out for brands, Seasonic is an extremely good brand that's always reliable, because they use well built capacitors from Japan in their units (which means they are less likely to fail while in use, and can last longer), many other companies actually have Seasonic (and a couple of other companies) manufacture their PSUs for them and re-sell on the market, high end Corsairs, XFX are just some examples of that.

Another factor in how the PSU powers the computer is through it's ampere rating, how much amps the PSU can produce will determine if your computer can get a steady current of power, but that's usually just labeled on the PSU itself and not a concern of regular consumers because PSUs are usually built to supply enough amps.

Pushing a PSU to its limit will make it hot and noisy with a shorter life. But with an I5-3570k o/c to 4.4GHz and two 7950 o/c to 1040MHz, I only see 350-400W when playing BF4. However benchmarking with higher o/c can easily push 750W!!

Some PSU have thermal cutout, not all, some just die which can damage other stuff.

while gaming you'll probably pull about 270-300W total out of your system. I wouldn't bet on your power supply lasting too long if you game a lot though, it's not that high quality, maybe 2-3 ish years if you're careful

well i got my computer and have been playing battlefield for more than a week and i average 78 fps. 140 is my highest while playing(excluding the loading screen which is at 200fps) and 38 is my lowest ever. This is without MSAA on.
