Hi there, newby here. I wanted to know if my current system will run a new 2080ti graphics card. And also which 2080ti would you recommended with my current psu. I was thinking buying either the NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX™ 2080 TI or the MSI V371-088R GRAPHICS CARD GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI 11 GB GDDR6.

My current setup:

MOBO: MSI z270 A-Pro
CPU: intel i7 7700k oc to 4.6ghz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3200 (4x8GB)
COOLING: Corsair H110iGT
GPU: MSI GTX1080 Aero 8GB OC (269 x 111 x 35 mm) recommenced psu 500W
PSU: Corsair CX650
STORAGE: 5x Samsung Evo 850/860
Seagate 1x 2TB Barracuda 7200 RPM
CASE: InWin 805 Black (Supports High-End Graphics Cards up to 320mm (Height: 164mm)

I was just thinking of just upgrading the gpu to the new 2080ti using my current CX650 psu, will the cx650 handle it with all my other components?

A breakdown of each wattage component would be great so I know where I stand.

Please note: I only play in VR on my Valve index.

Any advice will be greatful before I pull the trigger.

You should be fine. With that setup, it would be around 500W-550W.

And also, I am quite sure there aren't really any key differences between the normal one and the MSI one except the visuals, so it's your choice.

Oh, and I am just using what it tells me each part is using but here is a general idea:
7700k: ~90-100W
The harddrive and all the SSDs would be about 60W total
The 2080ti only has a TDP of 250W

Fans and RAM don't really use much at all.

That’s really great to know. You say the only key differences between normal one and the msi is visuals, do you mean the 1080 that I already have vs the new 2080ti Msi or are they differences in visual on all 2080ti cards?
as mentioned if I pull the trigger I be looking at either NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX™ 2080 TI or the MSI V371-088R GRAPHICS CARD GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI 11 GB GDDR6. Which is better?

And yeah, from what it seems, the only difference is how the card itself looks.

The only difference is if you get the Founders Edition of the Nvidia Geforce 2080ti, which is slightly more powerful

Oh I got you. Visuals in terms of gpu look and not in game. Any good websites you recommend to buy these cards. I’m based in uk so the only place I know and trust is amazon.co.uk which seems to stocks the Msi. Can’t see anyone stocking the nvidia one though. CeX is selling the nvidia for £900 but not sure if it’s second hand?

do you also think there be better performance in terms of overall vr gameplay with the 2080ti, just that I don’t know how much of a performance boost I shall see. Will I get 90fps in vr? As for my 1080 most games are locked to 45fps Whilst using the valve index.

It’s CeX, it’s secondhand and I would not touch it.

In the UK I’ve used and would use again;
Ebuyer
Scan
Aria
Amazon
Overclockers

There are probably more I have forgotten.

Didn’t you ask about the PSU yesterday or was that someone else?

You are not going to see 100% increase in performance. While not VR this review and benchmarks show the 2080Ti is roughly 50% faster in games. However another thing to consider is your cpu. As you go higher with the FPS the workload on the cpu increases. There will be a point where your FPS are limited by the cpu and not the gpu. This will be different from one game to the next.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out.

Oh sorry. Yes I thought my first post gotten lost. I could not see it when I posted it. My apologise. Hence added another.

my cpu is i7-7700k 4.2ghz oc to 4.6ghz
my psu is 650w Corsair cx650 in which I’m told will be fine by others here.
The CX650 will work. It’s just mediocre quality and paired with a very high end gpu is odd. Gaming puts the gpu under high load for long periods of time.

The rest of the system is good. The cpu is slightly behind a modern i5 but will still do very well in VR from the reviews I have seen.

Ok great. I think I will opt to buy the msi on amazon as it’s £949. Other companies you suggested are in the same ball park as for price. I can look into getting a better psu later down the line if I think it’s struggling. I dont tend to add anymore components to my current oc setup as it maxed out anyway for what I need. I’m just a vr enthusiast. No going back to flat screen for me.

Ok new card arrived and installed. Opted to buy the 2080ti from msi. All seems to be working fine, I ran it for 4hrs last night without any issues. 2080ti gpu was no hotter than 69c in vr full setting in Assetto corsa, made a lot of difference to the Frame rate smoothness from my 1080. PSU seems fine. Is there a programme that monitors the psu for heat and wattage while pc is running?

Just not confident enough changing the psu. I bought my initial pc pre build so wires everywhere. The psu I have seems to be fine for now. No issues so far.

Very few psu’s allow you to monitor them, I can only think of 1 model that you can. It’s also about supplying a clean regulated voltage which needs specialist equipment to measure. You also hope that a higher quality unit has less chance of failing or causing damage and if it does it should have a good long warranty.
