Will an AMD Phenom 9550 bottleneck an AMD 6570 MSI gpu? If yes, I plan on getting an Anthlon x3 450, but I prefer the 6570 if the my current CPU doesn't bottleneck. I'm a casual gamer btw (Starcraft 2, League of Legends, TF2, etc.)

Solution
The 6570 is a rather low end card by today's standards. You should be pretty far from bottlenecking it.

For an upgrade, I don't know your model of CPU well, but base it on this. If your Phenom has L3 cache like many do, you will be fine with a 7750 or a 7700. The 7790 or R7 250 is pushing the limits of the CPU though, and I think would have some bottleneck though it would be fairly small I think. Anything stronger would have a significant bottleneck.

i would personally go for an upgraded CPU if you go for a 7790 or higher, since even a $120 six core AMD CPU would be an upgrade and prevent bottleneck.

If you go with a 7700 or lower, I wouldn't bother since there shouldn't be any real bottleneck.

So if I get a 7750 or R7 250, would I need to overclock my cpu?

Actually, the R7 250 is the slightly slower re-branded HD 7750. I'd stick with the HD 7750, especially if the OP has a marginal PSU.

OP: your CPU is fine as is for either card. Of course, O/C'ing is always desirable... but not mandatory to avoid bottle neck. The HD 7750 is an amazing little card for running on 55W of power maxed out.

Oh I see. I still haven't got all the new models remembered. I personal don't like their new numbering system.
I would still advise getting a 7770 though if your PSU can handle it. The 7750 is a powerful little card, but price difference is pretty small and the 7770 has a good leg up with its uncut die.

What power supply do you have? What are your system specs now. What is your budget? Do you live near a Microcenter?

I have to agree with you on the new AMD model designations. Confusing. Not only does one need to remember the generational advance of model 'numbers', but now we have to remember which ones go with the R7 and R9 designations. And of course, throwing a 'X' on the end means what? Faster? Faster than a non-X of the next level? LOL, I'm sure it will all make sense before long.

@ clutchc

Yea seriously, I think they could of done about anything and had an easier naming system. I guess they figure that it doesn't really matter to anyone who isn't a techie, and a lot of us remember tons of numbers and details on parts already that this new system won't be an issue for us.
Thanks for the handy chart though, I will keep this around for a couple weeks till it finally sinks in 😛
