Will my cpu bottleneck?

I'm thinking of upgrading my gpu from a hd7970 to a 1080, but I'm not sure if I should spend money on upgrading my cpu too. I currently have an i5 6600K. Will my cpu bottleneck my computer if im planning to run most games at 1440p with high settings?

Generally no but maybe a little in the latest cpu heavy games. So BF1 multiplayer for example will see drops under 60fps as it just saturates quad cores.

You may encounter very minor issues at 1080p, but at higher resolutions it is highly unlikely that you will have a problem. Proceed with buying a new video card, just consider that the new gtx 20xx generation is around the corner so you may want to wait a bit to invest in the gtx2080 instead. Also, make sure that your PSU is capable of driving such video cards.
