That error is correct and I wouldnt take the chance, if you buy a Z170 motherboard, or any Intel 100 series motherboard, most of the time it requires a bios update to support Kaby Lake CPUs, and to upgrade the bios, you'll need a Sky Lake CPU, or pay a shop to do it for you, so save yourself the hassle and get a Z270 instead, which supports Kaby Lake out of the box.
