Will my current cpu (i5-2500k) make buying the gtx1070 not worth the extra money compared to the rx480/gtx1060?1080p@60hz

Current build:
Cpu: i5-2500K (non OC, yet but open to the idea)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
PSU:600W (dont have model# atm)
8GB DDR3 RAM
3 HDD, 1SSD

I'm planning on transitioning from console gaming to PC gaming. I also watch quite a bit of HD movies on my pc. My main goal is to be prepped for the future, and potentially VR.

Ill be gaming at 1080p@60Hz (maybe 120Hz) on a Samsung 1080p HDTV (dont have the model# with me atm). I'd like to run as high settings as possible.
Is it worth it to get the gtx1070 for something like this. I want to be prepared for the future, hence why I was leaning towards the 10xx series.
Im concerned that my i5-2500k cpu will bottleneck a gtx 1070/60, and since I dont plan on upgrading the cpu anytime soon(since Ill also have to upgrade my motherboard).
My budget is:
<$650 CAD

Am I better off buying a 1060, or AMD RX480 instead, and upgrading the motherboard/cpu? Or will I be fine buying the 1070, and getting good FPS with my current cpu?
I'd consider upgrading my cpu/mobo in maybe 1-2 years however.

UPDATE 11/20/16: I ended up getting the GTX1070, and am thrilled with it. I haven't had much issues playing games at ultra settings. It also helped a bit when I got a CPU cooler. Thanks for the help everyone

Solution
buy a gtx 1070 for beter performance in vr
dont worry about botelnecking
you will botelneck your cpu if you use over 2k resolution
i am usin an i5 4460 with gtx 1070
on 1K resolution and thers bnot any performance lost

Higher resolution actually makes a CPU bottleneck less likely due to the increased load on the GPU.

You wont bottleneck any of the above....unless your playing a CPU intensive game. I built my son a Gaming rig with a AMD Athlon 7600k and GTX 970 Turbo and it rips. the 970 scores the same performance in game as it did when it was running on my i5 6600k build before I gave the 970 to him.
The 1060 is a sweet deal, BUT I wont buy because the money grubbin whores at Nvidia made them without SLI possibilities so they pretty much pneutered your GPU. Because you could buy 2 1060's for less than the cost of a 1080 and destroy a 1080. Oh the marketing schemes of the Elite scumbags........
While on the other hand AMD with the budget 480 you can Xfire all day long. At least AMD has customers satisfaction in mind.... Nvidia are just money whores....

jayf95.... just curious.... are you still running your i5-2500k at stock speed with the GTX1070? I too am considering a 1070 and have an i5-2500k, but am not knowledgeable about overclocking.

It will work, but the stock speed 2500k will hold back the performance of the 1070?

What motherboard and CPU cooler do you have? Its well worth overclocking the 2500k.

RobCrezz,

Right now I have
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
Xigmatek Nepartak - S983 92mm HYPRO Bearing CPU Cooler
8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600
ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 LGA 1155 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 570

I understand that the 1070 may not reach it's "full potential" but I'm just looking for smooth game play. For me, if I get a smooth 60 fps it's no different than getting a 100 fps. I will eventually do a full overhaul of my system, but figured I'd start with the gpu first.

As far as overclocking goes.... yeah know everyone says its easy and to do it, but I just haven't done my research on it yet and really don't feel comfortable changing settings without messing anything up. I was thinking about going into the BIOS and trying the preset OC settings, but I've read that those settings aren't always the best. Would you agree?
