Will my current PSU keep up with a hardware change ?

I'm planning to buy a new Sapphire RX Vega 64 GPU to replace my trusty old XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB DD XXX Edition and since I'm barely on budget as is I cannot afford replacing any other component to facilitate the mentioned hardware change. So here I am asking you , almighty PC gurus of this amazing and almost magical forum \(😵)/ , one simple and clean question :

Old GPU : XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB DD XXX Edition
New GPU : Sapphire Radeon RX VEGA 64 8GB HBM2 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Stand Alone

i'd say it'll be fine, though it's going to be pretty narrow coz of Vega's monstrous power consumption 😱

You will need a higher quality PSU.

Pick from either tier 1 or tier 2, 750W unit.

You should be covered but I might think about replacing your PSU long term regardless. It is not the best PSU out there and could fail though in theory your covered. Stick with tier 1 or 2 supplies...yours is a not tiered and when zalman PSU are tiered it is usually tier 3 or worse.

That psu + vega is something I wouldn't do. It's not bad but it's far from great.

Also be sure you aren't overcharged for the vega 64 since it performes the same as gtx 1080 but is more often than not being sold for 1080ti prices (the 1080ti is simply better than the vega 64 so don't get ripped of with your vega 64)

Thanks @jaslion and yes, I am aware of that, here in Romania the price is ( no joke ) double than that of it's standard retailer price, I intend to ask a close friend who lives in the UK to buy it for me.

On the subject, I wanna get it asap cuz as far as you guys tell me my PSU "could" hold it but I'm starting to vizualise the worst case scenario and oh gawd no....On the other hand, If I decide to wait till I gather up money for a serious PSU my mentioned friend might leave UK by then and I'll be forced to pay extra pounds for it's delivery, pounds that will be already spent on the new PSU

You could just get a gtx 1080 since it consumes a lot less power and that will work. Vega 64 and the 1080 perform the same anyways unless you need vega for something specific.

Vega aren't really worth it, unless u gonna pair it with freesync

and it just occur to me: @OP it's 1920 x 1080 perhaps? not 1980x1020....
