Will my F2a78m-hd2 motherboard work with something like a AMD A10-7890K?

I've built my computer with a Amd 7400k and a Gtx 950 strix and I stupidly enough didn't know that it was going to bottle neck, so i am planning to buy a new processor. So all i really need to know that if i get a processor like the A10 that it will work with my motherboard. Thanks!

YEs, the A10-7890K & F2A78M-HD2 are compatible.

I wouldn't recommend the A10 though - you don't need the APU graphics aspect if you're running a discrete card.

On that board, an Athlon X4 860K or 880K would be decent upgrades over the A6-7400K. Not ideal, and I wouldn't recommend them in a new build, but given what you've got at the moment, they'll alleviate the bottleneck.

With a 880k would i be getting better results than with A10 though?

Very comparable to the A10-7890K at stock, with the 860K & 880K being a little better - and much better overclockers too.

The biggest difference though, is cost. You don't need an APU, as you have a discreet GPU - so why pay ~$150 for an A10-7890K, when an Athlon X4 880K performs a little better, and only costs ~$85 ?

Ok thanks!
