Will my first build work?

Hi there,

I am building my first computer but I am not quite sure about it. So far I am looking at...
Case - Cooler Master HAF-X 942
MB - ASUS Crosshair V AMD 990FX
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB
CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz
SSD - Crucial M4
HDD - Western Digital RE4 500GB 7200 RPM
Power - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2
Video Card - MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC Radeon HD 6950

One of the things I am considering is going for two Radeon 5000 series instead of the one 6950. I am not so much concerned with price as performance but I don't want to go much past the $1300 I am already looking at.

Thanks for any helpful comments you can provide.

Save some money and get one of these MB. you won't see a big performance difference across the same chipset.

I always say buy the biggest single GPU you can when you build your system initially. then later when that GPU just isn't enough, or the price on the GPU drops, then buy a second for CF/SLI.

what are you doing for Cooling the CPU? Stock?

Don't waste time on an older GPU. They use more energy, create more heat, and are already outdated. Go with a 6870, 6950 or 6970 and later you can add another one.

Other than that, you've obviously got money so go with your personal preferences.

what are you doing for Cooling the CPU? Stock?

I was thinking about stock but that is something I really don't know anything about. I am not really concerned with noise because for some reason I tune out white noise effortlessly but I would not want the stock fan to hamper performance by being inferior.

Also, I noticed that my PSU isn't modular, should I reconsider one that is?

A stock cooler should be fine as long as you are not over clocking. most after market coolers perform better and are quieter though. the CM Hyper 212+ seems very popular and it is low cost.

A Modular PSU is always better as long as it's in your budget, but don't sacrifice quality for modularity. with a nice case like the one you picked you wont have any issues finding places to tie up and tuck excess cables, so you should be ok with out one.
