Will my FX 8350 work for 4k gaming

I was wondering if anyone knows if I have to upgrade my entire computer or just the video card.

I currently have a FX 8350 with a R9 280x. I exclusively play games and I am pretty happy with what I have for 1080p gaming. Games like World of Tanks and Guild Wars 2 run average 50-60fps on highest settings for me. Totally playable and I am fine with that.

I want to move to playing in 4k resolution. I am going to purchase a nVidia GTX 1080 and a 4k monitor. Question is: will I still get 50-60 fps using my current CPU/mobo or should I purchase an entire new computer ?

I appreciate any insights.

technically a a 1080 at 4k will work but a full 45+ fps may not happen on some games i think getting a strong i5 or i7 cpu is a better choice
whats your budget?

I can spend the money if I need to. But if I can I want to wait until the next gen of processors comes out (Kaby lake, Zen, etc)

I guess what I need to know is how much of a penalty does 4k extract on a CPU - if any?
For example, I play a certain game at 1080p now and get 60fps. I happen to know that the bottleneck for this game is the 8350 (very CPU intensive). If I play the same game at 4k resolution can I still expect 60fps - assuming the new video card has the horsepower? Or is there a penalty on CPU performance going to 4k? If so about how much?
