Will my gateway 4840 support a sapphire 7850?

With that PSU ugrade, you should be good. You're gonna be running it on a PCI-E 1.0 slot, so that will be a bit limiting as opposed to 3.0, but it should still run fine, and be a huge step up from onboard graphics, assuming that's what it's running.
