im getting a Radeon rx 570 tomorrow and would like to know if i will have to update the bios with my gigabyte 970a d3p rev 2.0 mobo before i switch out my old card.

If the PC will boot with the new GPU, you don't have to update the BIOS. If the PC not boot with the rx570, then you have to update the BIOS with the old GPU, after done the BIOS update, the switch the GPU.

So before you switch the GPU, use the old GPU and DDU to uninstall the GPU driver first, then shut down the PC. Switch the GPU, boot the PC.
