Ok so im building my computer for the first time and i know very little so i might be stupid in asking but my gtx1080ti is huge compared to my msi z270i gaming pro carbon motherboard and when i put it up to install it it looks like the connectors are too thin to hold the thing up and im worried it will break off from its own weight.

It will fit fine. But be sure the case you have will accept the card's length. As to the board's PCIe x16 connector, that is not what 'holds' the card. That is simply it's electrical connection to the board. The card will be held in place by the bracket on the card attaching to the case at the rear.
