Will my i3 core 2120 work on an motherboard supports 4th and 5th gen cpu's?

Hi everyone, i am building my first gaming pc so i am still a newbie. I have a Intel core i3 2120 3.30Ghz processor at the moment and i am buying my compenents part by part. The problem i have is i bought a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard and it supports 4th and 5th gen CPU's.., my question is will my 2nd gen CPU be able to work on it temporarily until i have the money for a better CPU? No, your i3 is socket 1155 based, z97 is lga 1150.
