Hello. I have an I7 4790 (non-k), paired with a gtx 1070 and DDR3 ram running at 1600mhz(could run at 1866mhz but my motherboard doesn't support it). I'm wondering if my CPU will affect my experience, because in some games, mostly multiplayer, large scale games, I have experienced lower than expected fps caused by low GPU usage, which was caused by the slower speed of the RAM, thus the CPU not being able to handle it too well. My plan is to buy either an Oculus Rift S ( most likely ) or a Valve Index, but most likely the Oculus Rift S unless the Index prices really drop and use it to play Half Life Alyx, Pavlov, Boneworks and such games and in the future upgrade to a new CPU/MOBO/RAM OR sell my current CPU/MOBO/RAM now and upgrade to something like an R5 3600 with 3200mhz RAM, and save up a little more before buying the VR Headset. Also, I don't intend to buy the VR headset until march.

Solution
Honestly I would invest the vr headset money on a new pc rig. Your system is, and I am not being mean just honest, on the low end of VR gaming. You would be much happier with a new pc that is able to handle AAA titles for non and VR gaming in the future. Then when you do buy that VR headset you will be good to go.

Thanks for the answer. Well I could only replace the CPU/MOBO/RAM at the moment, after I sell the current ones. I'm thinking of a Ryzen 5 3600 with a X470 motherboard and Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz RAM. But I'm still not sure, as I've seen people on other forums saying they can run VR with my CPU just fine.
