This is probably the best you can do.

Not sure if it will support a brisbane core so you better stick with the windsor.

this is the only info i could find on your mobo and it doesn't look like it can take a windsor

and besides that processor is old you might as well go AM3 adn get more expandability.

this is a good setup

AMD Athlon II x2 240 2.8 ghz

Foxconn mobo, very reliable
AM2+/AM3, DDR2 memory

you could go totally AM3, but then when you get DDR3 memory then it gets a bit expensive

wha0t is your budget?

There's the thing if I'm going to have to get a new mobo to
get a decent CPU I might as well get a good one. I was looking at the
Asus gene III. both crossfire and sli support as well as quad core. But I have
no money for it and the ram and the CPU. So I was thinking might as well stick with
this one and get an ok CPU for little to nothing.

I really don't need a quad core just yet thou, but more then i have. what is the differance between Windser and brisbane? would this CPU work in my mobo (its like 55 bucks, and 3.1 ghz is almost 33% faster than what i have.)

Thats interesting that you say it might not support Windser, because thats what HP made it with, acording to CPU-Z :)
