Will my motherboard and cpu still work?

Hello everyone, I have just started building a pc, now I did do tons of research before hand and I was told dont touch the bottom of the cpu, I also read about static and how it can harm components, well anyway me and my dad we were trying to fit the cpu into a installation tool that came with the motherboard, and we looked up a tutorial on how to do it and the dude in the video pushed the back of the cpu (aka touched it) to fit it in, now we did the same and it did not work so we installed the cpu without the tool, now I have been doing reading after-words and I read that you are definatly not supposed to touch it because of the oils and stuff like that on your skin, same with motherboard and we touched the back of both.

Now thats why I came here, now when I say I touched it I did wash my hands and dry them and I only touched the back outer area of the cpu and motherboard so I am asking will it still work? because I am worried like if my hands had static or I dont know something like that.

Thank you in advance.

It still might work.

Best practice would be to remove the CPU heatsink (if you've installed it at this point) and clean the top of the CPU & heatsink off with Isopropyl Alcohol (%70+) and a lint-free cloth. After it has been cleaned, wait a few hours and re-apply thermal paste/ re-install the CPU heatsink. This would ensure you don't have a poor heat distribution because of anything that was on your finger when you pressed it into the top of the CPU.

As far as the ESD, not too much you can do about that now. Most of the time the hardware will still work even after a small discharge, but they are sensitive, so sometimes it doesn't. No way to know now but to try and see if the PC starts up.

If nothing else, a very good lesson about not trusting youtube videos without verification from other scources.

Got my fingers crossed for you, please let us know if your build works out in the end!

Thank you for the quick reply and the advice, I will tell you if it powers on and works, still waiting for the graphics card and ram to arrive though, and installing the cpu cooler was a nightmare!
