i want to get an i7 4790k my motherboard has a LGA 1150 socket type the processor i am currently using is an i5 4460 which is a locked processor. i am also wondering if my motherboard will support an K processor. according to speccy my speccy my motherboardis an LGA 1150 socket type so im wondering if it will work.

A 4790K will physically fit as it is an 1150 socket CPU, but you need to look at the CPU compatibility list on the motherboard makes website for your model motherboard. It may not be compatible or you may need to update the Bios before being able to use it.

okay i see thank you also my chipset type is haswell is that okay also i just searched up the 4790k on intels website and the supported socket is FCLGA1150 also is there any way i can check if its compatible or not any specific things i need to look out for

the only reason why i want to get a i7 4790k is because i play alot of games on my gaming rig and i need the extra core speed and more cores for better multitasking and mostly for emulators because they require a lot of cpu power also in GTA 5 when theres to much traffic density in the area my cpu starts to struggle i could pass it off as game optimization but i need more cores for multitasking and just to have more of a upgrade in my pc for higher end graphics cards like the GTX 1070 which i am also planning on purchasing soon along with a brand new Evga power supply the only thing that i do struggle with is finding information about my motherboard because it is a branded motherboard which came with an i5 4460 processor which i have had for about 2 years now.

Which graphics card do you have now? The i5 4460 is a good processor. Which mobo is it?

my graphics card right now is an asus strix gtx 960 4gb gddr5 to be honest ive been trying to find out what my motherboard and after some research its called a G3 605 Predator thats all the info i can find on it however it is a very decent motherboard this is what i meant by it being branded i mean if i have to change the motherboard i guess ill have to save up for another motherboard or something if it is an issue however i have found out that i can have an i7 4790 but not a K version im just worried if my motherboard is gonna cause me problems in the future as its a branded one the vendor is from intel though but it does look like to me i cant have a K processor and im also not sure if my i5 4460 will be up to the task when i decide to get the new GTX 1070 when its released.

You should probably contact Acer support and ask them what processor your system can be upgraded to. Frequently, OEM's will limit what CPU's can be used through the Bios due to heat or power requirements within the system. Even swapping the motherboard may be a problem since they could use a proprietary power supply, odd size, or special front panel connectors. If the 4790 was an optional CPU, you could probably use it, but again, check with Acer to make sure they didn't use a larger PSU with the i7's.

i was thinking about changing the power supply i havent really had any issues with the one inside my pc now its a 500w 80+ gold rated no issues with fan noise or anything but i was thinking if im getting a new processor and stuff i would probably need to change it i was thinking more of an evga one but ill contact them and see what upgrades i can do im perfectly fine to get a 4790 as its max turbo is 3.9 ghz because orginally when i got this gaming pc it had a 700 series card which i changed to a gtx 960 as i found out a 500watt psu was all i needed for my cpu gpu and other components but since i want to change the processor i will change the power supply its worth changing to a better quality one i am aware that some prebuilts they can often go cheap on a certain component thats why i chose very carefully at the time i got this gaming pc but ill talk have a talk with acer and see if i can change my processor to an i7 4790. just a quick question though will changing the power supply be an issue for my motherboard aswell?

thats okay then ill still contact acer just to make sure. i aint to perfect when it comes to pc parts and stuff however i did upgrade some components in my pc i changed from 8gb of ram to 16 using 2 sticks of 8gb of ddr3 ram changed my graphics card to the 960 and i installed a case fan at the back of the case that is 2000rpm so my airflow is good because originally acer didnt put a case fan inside it which i was quite dissapointed about and i know temps are important i mean ive had this pc for 2 years now and given it my own incremental upgrades as this is my first gaming pc. but i thank you for helping me.
