I know this may have been addressed on other threads but given the difference in hardware per person I decided to make my own thread to get a better answer for the system I'm using.

Question:
I'm thinking about getting an HD 7970 sometime with in the next 3-5 months *hoping AMD lowers there prices lol* but em not sure if my OCed 955BE will be a bottleneck or not.

PC spec's:

955BE @ 3.8GHz *Can easily hit 4GHz if I pushed the Vcore to v1.45, currently at v1.355*
Zalman CNPS10X Perfoma with 2 120's *CPU has only seen 45c+ if encoding or running Prime95 or other CPU heavy Benchmarks, other then that with normal use it has never seen 45c lols*
8GB of DDR3 1600MHz
ASRock 990FX Extreme 4
Seagate 750 SATA
GigaByte HD4890OC 1GB (Upgrade needed is an understatement!..) *915MHz Core, 1GHz Ram*
Antec 750Watt PSU
Xigmetek Utgard case *clear side version*
6 120mm case fans *average 80+ CFMs*

Solution
Nope.

Raising the IMC/NB from stock 2000MHz to 2400MHz will provide a nice boost in CPU intensive games, though, while increasing memory bandwidth and reducing latency.

My NB is set to 2400MHz @ v1.2
Memory is @ 1600MHz 9-9-9-24-2T @ v1.5 *I have 2 different sets of G.kill an ECO set that can run at 8-7-8-24-2T and a Ripjaw set that runs at 9-9-9-24-2T, so to get them Both stable I set them all at Cas 9 @ v1.5.
CPU's at 19x200MHz @ v1.355 and as I said before I can hit 4GHz just don't see a real need to atm.

Also I do plan on slapping an SSD in the system later as an OS/Games drive, there just so Damn! expensive!

Games I currently play are Aion *F2P now Woot* Skyrim, Mass Effect Series, Crysis 1 & 2, Star Trek Online, those are the most demanding that I play especially Aion and Skyrim if I'm using an ENB config. I only play my games in 1080p as well *hard to go back when 1080p is just so nice!* lols

Sorry for the late reply, sister just had her 1st kid an that kinda took everyone's time as you could imagine lols.

I can actually hit 3.8GHz on this chip without an increase to the vcore, I just chose to for stability lol. When I had this chip at 4GHs at v1.4225 and ran Prime95 for 4 hours I thought I was stable, but then I ran Skyrim about 2 weeks later and the system rebooted so I then reverted to 3.8GHz @ v1.355 an been stable since lol not like it wouldn't have been at that lols, I may push 3.9GHz an up the vcore a hair and see how that go's lols.

Also heat isn't an issue, I'm using a Zalman CNPS10X Performa with 2 120mm blue LED thermaltake smart fans, each having a max of 97.5 CFM, there loud though at full RPMs :/, hottest I have Ever seen this chip is 52c during a Prime95 test, and thats with all my fans at about 50% RPMs, other then that it stays under 100F during normal use or gaming, encoding in Sony Vegas bumps it to about 110-112F but that's about it lols. Coldest I have seen is 72F-76F  but that's in the morning lol when its about 60F in the room lols.

Anyways! yes I am waiting to see what Piledriver and Steamroller have to offer, and will upgrade my system if needed, atm I just really need to replace/upgrade my 4890 lols, and a 7970 would be a B****ing upgrade lol.
