Will my processor die soon if I buy intel because of the thermals?

Greetings:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/two-ways-to-cool-down-your-defective-overheating-intel-cpu/

Been reading this article, it looks very bad to me, however I'm not tech savvy enough, so it may just be a bump up in temps.

How bad is it really?

Is it worth it to go FX-8350 if I want to avoid such a thing? My main purpose is gaming.

I was also thinking applying a better cooling solution to the i5 I had planned on acquiring, but I'm not that sure.

Can you help me out here?

Thanks in advance.

That article is nonsense. First of all, I have yet to see a CPU that runs well with its thermal compound and then suddenly overheats because the compound becomes too hot. Intel is definitely not going to risk its good name on such a thing. Even if it did happen, others have already pointed out that the CPU will throttle itself in emergency, preventing its own death.
Hi,

The i5 will be better for gaming. Look at a 3570k/4670k. You will be able to monitor temperatures and control how hot your processor will get anyway.

The heat is dependent on the 'silicon lottery' which I believe mostly plagues intel (don't quote me on that), whereby the quality of the silicon will determine how far you can overclock since it will also affect temperatures.

Generally, you should apply a better cooling solution than the stock fan - even something cheap (and very effective) such as the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO would be good.

well..actually intel is better in this situation..
intel processor will throttle if it gets too hot, so it'll reduce heat and power consumption..

meanwhile, amd cpu still run at full speed until burn..

so, answering your question "Is it worth it to go FX-8350 if I want to avoid such a thing? ", absolutely not..

if you overclock your current processor, then better cooling is a must. but if you've just run it in stock clock, well, no..save your money..

I believe the AMD's throttle also, with a max temp of 62c on the core and 70c on the socket although they may throttle later than that.

Depends on the i5 if it is better or not. I would buy a Xeon 1230 v2 over a locked i5 anyday. If it is a locked one, FX 8320 is a better buy. If it is a k series, then yea overall it is a better chip. Stock coolers suck from both companies, so you will definitely want an aftermarket cooler. Even a Hyper TX3 can easily handle say a 3570k @ 4.0ghz.

afaik, amd cpu has no internal temp protection..
well, yes, it can set in bios setting, or enable cn'q.
but if we forget to set it..well, it will run at full speed until die..(well, looks like a real champion from this point of view..😀, run til die.. )
