As I have recently ordered an ASUS R9 270 Oc version. I want to know if my PSU would be able to run it 20 hours everyday as I'm looking forward to Gaming at 1080p. In my country, My normal CPU temps are always at 50C. Just want to know if there won't be a problem running this GPU on my PSU Corsair VS 550.

My Specs :
Intel Core i5 2500k
Intel Dh61ww
Corsair 4GB Value Select (going to upgrade to 8Gb)
Corsair VS 550

You have more than enough PSU power available. With the R9 270 and your I5-2500K you should be pulling around 245 Watts worst case. You have almost double that available. There will be a slight increase with the ram you are adding but it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. You shouldn't have any problems.

Your power supply is a low quality power supply. If it were high quality, I would say that it was good enough for what your system needs. But I am concerned that once you add the video card to the system, that the extra load may be too much for that power supply. Asus lists the power draw for that video card as being as much as 150 watts. The rest of your system probably uses about that much too, so this is going to double the workload the power supply is going to be doing.

I suggest that you go ahead and try it, and see what happens. But if you start getting random reboots, BSOD errors, wierd things happening that make no sense, I want you to think, "My cheap power supply is most likely the cause of this."

If that does start happening, try to buy a Seasonic power supply. Anything in the 450 watt to 620 watt range from Seasonic would be an excellent power supply for you. Also, good are the following:

  • ■ EVGA SuperNova G2 / P2 / T2 / GS / PS
    ■ Enermax DigiFanless 500w
    ■ Silverstone Nightjar Platinum 520w
    ■ Super Flower Leadex Gold / Platinum / Golden King / Golden Silent / 430w

With Corsair VS 550 you can do gaming with your new R9 270 OC just fine and pose no problems for long hours use. Even though the VS series of Corsair PSUs are not a known quality PSU series, it's still far better than any of the cheap unknown chinese or local made PSUs. Great to go....
