So my rig is this one atm:

CPU: i7-4790
GFX: GTX 970 G1
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 (1 module)
HDD: x2 7200 RPM drives
DVD drive: 1
Case fans: 3

PSU : Corsair VS550

I will be changing my PC case and add a ssd.
The case will have 5 fans,3x 120mm and 2x 80mm and a 240gb kingston ssd.
Will my PSU still be enough?

Solution
I don't think it will fry anything, only crappy units without good circuitry fry anything. It would be an extremely rare scenario for a VS 550 to do such a thing. Keep in mind, even a Seasonic Snow Silent 1050 has the ability to damage hardware. Every PSU has that possibility, because just about anything can fail in the best and worst units.

He can use the PSU just fine; indeed getting a better PSU would increase the lifespan of the rest of the hardware if it has tighter ripple and tighter voltage regulation; a new PSU could also allow more overclocking potential. But indeed, this PSU will work fine. How long it will is not definite, but probably not for any extended duration of time, it'll eventually fail and need replaced. It's...
I had the same question before and we have similarly have the same specs. Honestly, yes it's fine but not really either. The VS series for Corsair is a Tier 4. Reference: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html#15349669.
Which means it's not really the best for a gaming ring but it can handle it. Get a Seasonic M12II, it's what I'm changing too.

It would probably handle it (although I see some reports of the VS being unable to output their full rated wattage), but I'd advise replacing it with a higher quality unit. How much would you be willing to spend on a PSU upgrade?

it can handle yes if its not at the limit...
and good choice with the M12II

Yeah, I got a vs650 and it makes me cringe so hard at the moment since I can't overclock 🙁

try selling it im sure someone will buy it

If I discard 1 HDD will it help?

No. Your PSU is not stable enough to be able to sustain the load of a 970. The HDD and SSDs don't matter. Even though it works fine now, it's only a matter of time till it gives up, possibly frying other components as well. Buy a new Tier One or Tier Two PSU from Tom's Hardware's PSU Tier List (Link in signature).

I can give up on one HDD,I have 1 1TB HDD and 1 2TB HDD

Thinking about getting this PSU in the future: http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/corsair/rmi-series-rm650i-650w-80-plus-gold/

Is it the right choice?

I'm talking from experience; In the past month, I've helped out 3 people who've had problems with CX series PSUs; one with a busted motherboard and PSU as a result, and two who had crashing and rebooting problems. All three had PSUs with what should have been sufficient wattage; one was using the PC as a DAW with a low end (>GTX 750 Ti) GPU and an FX 6300 on a CX 750W, and the rest were more standard gaming rigs.

The VS series is built to a lower standard than the CX. It's capacitors are all CapXcon. At least The CX uses Teapo and Chemi-Con on some. It's meant for developing markets like india where price is put over performance. That's why I'm very conservative about recommending a VS PSU to anyone, especially if they're running a relatively power hungry GPU like the 970; for office rigs they're fine, but a definite no-no for anything above a 750 Ti. Why risk an i7 and a 970 for $80?

I didn't phrase my post very well; I know the CX uses CapXcon too, but at least it uses beter ones for the more 'important' capacitors. And generally everything from CapXcon is sub-par. But I digress. The OP has all the information he needs; it's up to him to make a choice.

I will be getting this one right now.

Yes great choice, though you can easily go with the RM550x, no need to get a 650x.

In case I want to further upgrade my PC
