Hello, I'm planning on getting a pc upgrade soon because my current pc specs are no longer able to keep up with the modern games as well as it did 1-2 years ago.

My specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Ram: 1 x 16 & 1 x 4 corsair vengeance lpx 2400 mhz
GPU: Zotac NVIDIA 1660 Super
Storage devices: 1tb seagate barracuda & and an m.2 ssd 256gb (no branding)
PSU: Corsair CV-450|
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A320M-K

I'm planning on upgrading from a 1660 super to an rx 6650 xt and according to pc part picker, this system should use 350 watts of power maximum, most of the time it will be way below that. I will eventually upgrade to an 850 watts corsair psu and a new motherboard around half way through next year, will my current psu be able to handle this new gpu?

I don't understand the whole Ram: 1 x 16 & 1 x 4 corsair vengeance lpx 2400 mhz ; but what I can say is that your current PSU will not really work to power all the periphs. Recommended best PSU Wattage would be anywhere between 650 - 800 but maybe going for 850 isn't half bad. Maybe even upgrade that RAM too cuz . . . Idk about 2400Mhz in my favor do like 3200Mhz - 4000...................................

I bought a prebuilt pc years ago which I regret doing now because they gave me a very unpopular motherboard and too many sticks of ram, in the end I decided to just put the 16gb and 4gb together. I'll probably end up buying a new psu and a new gpu now and upgrade my motherboard and ram next year as I do not need better ram right now. Also, reading all these forums most people say that a 450-500 watts psu could work perfectly fine with an rx 6650 xt and honestly even though I don't know whose opinion to take I will take the safe route and upgrade my psu as well.

Thanks

Hey there,

That PSU is not a good one at all. Certainly not made for a gaming machine! Getting a good Corsair RMX/RMe/RMi/TXM will be a recommended ones, and good for newer more power hungry parts down the line.

In terms of an upgrade, it is arguable that changing your ram will bring the biggest boost with the system you currently have. This would be the least expensive option. You mobo can take up to 3000mhz ram, and this over your current ram will give you a 10-15% boost in FPS, gaming wise.

You could also look at a 5600x/x3d for the CPU. This would also bring a huge FPS boost

The issue with getting 'just' a new GPU is that you won't feel much difference if the CPU remains the same. Your CPU sends ore-rendered frames to the GPU. If your CPU is older the new GPU may be waiting on the CPU to send the frames. This can result in underutilisation of the GPU.

Hello Roland, I have a budget of 700 pounds (820 euros) so that's why I have decided to go with an AMD gpu. But also I have never done any bios updates to my motherboard and I don't think that my current motherboard will have any bios updates to support a 5000 series am4 cpu. I'm not a very big rgb man so I will probably end up getting corsair vengeance lpx 2x16 and a corsair rm850x so I won't have to buy a new psu down the line when I'm doing new upgrades. And if I was to get ram with 3200 mhz will my motherboard still support it despite the ram having higher mhz than the motherboard's supported range?

Update: Thank you for the help from everyone that replied to my thread here! I've just ordered myself an rx 6650 xt, a new rmx 850 watt psu and corsair vengeance 2 x 16 gb 3200mhz ram

Thanks, I used to help repair a lot of arcade machines and half of the time there were always damaged capacitors. But not with the arcade machines manufactured in Japan, the capacitors handled like a dream. And I'm sure the same will be for this psu because it has Japanese capacitors

Update: Everyone I have officially gotten my rm850x and my corsair vengeance 3200mhz ram. It works like a charm and I would absolutely recommend this combo. I am going to be picking up a brand new rx 6700 next week it was only 10 euros more than an rx 6650 xt for extra performance and vram.

Glad it's working so well for you! This was definitely a situation in which your work experience helped you out. It's frequently very hard to convince people that a PSU with a modern platform and high-quality capacitors is a much better idea than one of those $30-$40 fireboxes that just throw in whatever the cheapest junk they can source.

The new GPU is a good match to your system in place and with getting that RAM too, you ought to be able to wring as much performance out of your system as you can.

Thank you, I still haven't ordered this new gpu yet because I am going to be planning some vacations for the next week or two and the gpu will be coming from the US in that time so yet again I have changed my idea for what gpu I want . I was gonna get starfield but I saw an offer for a PowerColor Fighter Radeon RX 6700 XT for 312 pounds (or 392 dollars approx) and I thought to myself that I would be saving 60 pounds if I bought this bundle instead. My ryzen 5 3600 will probably cause around 10-20% bottlenecks with this gpu so I will end up upgrading my cpu during black friday sales to an ryzen 5 7 5700x.
