Will my psu be overkill?

I'm probably gonna upgrade my pc with a gtx970 mini from gigabyte. (have a gt 710 right now) but will my psu be compatible and not be too big of a over kill.

nope when your gaming your stressing the power supply. buying one that slightly larger then needed keeps is running cooler then one that running near the 12v rail max output. you also get longer life out of power supply that over sized as the caps and other parts dont see high load on them when gaming. with newer power supply most now have thermal fans. if you buy a unit that loaded t o70-80 percent and game you may hear fan noise. the larger power supply can stay cooler under heaver load.

You could get away with a lower wattage PSU, but 650w wouldn't exactly be overkill and you'd have capacity for upgrades. The EVGA PSU you've chosen is excellent too.

You could probably get by on a 550 but with the 650 may give you some more overclocking potential. That being said the evga g2 series are great and i personally am using it and i love mine.
