I am thinking about getting the r9 290 but I don't know if the PSU will run it. I have a Corsair cs550m. By the way, I wont be doing any overclocking. Here are my other specs:

i5 4690 3.9gtz

Coolermaster hyper tx3

MSI Z87 G41 PC MATE

1tb Seagate hhd

6gb ddr3 1333mhzcs550m

NZXT

Corsair source 210

NZXT Fan controller with 4 fans

Solution
like I said, try to find a gtx 970 instead, no extra price for PSU, not extra price for cooloer, and will last longer with a better experience, Hope I helped
what's your top price, I had a r9 290 and it was a pain, power bills and heat output is insane and it's not a pleasurable experience unless you have a very good cooler on it. Look at the gtx 970/970 instead if you can if not, make sure that it is a third party cooler and not a stock fan due to it being a loud and not very nice experience

Heres the thing, I would get a 970 but it is to expensive. Will the r9 290 max out every game at playable frame rates at like 60fps? I have a 1600x900 moniter.

thank goodness, the reference is unbearable to use, hopefully it'll all be fine for you, and i don't think you'll be able to overclock on that, as the minimum wattage is 500W and if you have a bad chip it could be higher, it'll just squeeze in that power supply range but it's gunna struggle a bit

I have a Z87 chip. I just found out that the r9 290 takes 453 watts on full load.
