Will my RAM work?

I've received 16GB (2x8gb) in Saran Wrap (plastic wrap) and I'm wondering if the RAM will still work even though it was wrapped in Saran wrap. I immediately took it out and place it into a paper bag, because I currently don't have my computer yet. Any better suggestions I should store it in. And, no I currently only have a ziplock, bubble wrap package, and a paper bag, but no anti-static bag. 🙁

So, my question is, will RAM still work even though it was covered in Saran or plastic wrap?

Solution

It can. The reason that saran wrap clings to itself is from the static electricity created by friction. But, there is no way to tell if that static actually zapped your RAM stick. Your RAM might be fine, or it might not be. The only REAL way to tell is to plug it in. Again, you don't need to worry about it damaging anything else. It will either work or it won't. Test one stick at a time to gather the status on both.
There is no way to tell for sure. That is a bad way to keep RAM, but the only way to know for sure is to plug it in and see if the computer will recognize it. It won't cause damage to the other components in your computer if it doesn't work.

Does Saran Wrap create ESD?

Alright I'll test it out soon, when I get my computer.
