[SOLVED] Will my ryzen 5 2600 bottleneck a 3080?

I was planning on getting a 3080 but don't want to spend money on a cpu upgrade so I was wondering if I should get a new cpu because of performance loss.

It wouldn't "bottleneck" the performance of a 3080 as long as it's not at 1080p. As you scale up the resolution, gaming becomes more gpu bound and the cpu does less work. However, your pc will be slower in general than if you bought a 3600 and a 3070.

Not necessarily. At 4K for example the difference in cpu would most likely be negligible but the jump to a 3080 a decent uplift in performance.

When I think of everyday tasks I think of basic home user activities. These are not cpu heavy and I highly doubt you would feel any difference.

Get the 3080, and slap in a 3rd gen R7-3700X/3800X later (assuming your mainboard supports it) when prices drop...

We need to wait for benchmarks but I expect the 3080 will bottleneck even the best CPU’s at only 1080p. Even the 2080Ti did that and the 3070 should equal it out perform the 2080Ti.

Yes true regardless the CPU has a ton of work it does it just doesn't drive the real time 3D experience but everything fro programming to music to sound to AI to objects in a map to weapons and what not and map show casing is done by CPU. The GPU drives the pixels so you can move in real time in the AAA world for example. The 2700x I believe he had is very similar to the 9900k. Although the 9900k edges it out, it is not by a lot. If its a 2700 then it is comparable to a 9700k I would say. They came out at same time and alto 9900k is king the 2700x was AMDs offering at the time in latet 2018. TLDR 👈👶🙏✝

In closing the 3080 would not bottleneck your CPU however a faster CPU would in nature give out more FPS that is for certain. If you want to call that a bottleneck then so be it. ☮👶🙏🚔🤷‍♀️

a 2080ti is overkill for 1080p, so a 3080 is twice more overkill

get a used 2060 or 2070 in about a month they will be sold for 150-200$ tops
still they are overkill for 1080p too

those stories about bottleneck means that with a 3080 and CPU A you will get 180 FPS, and with CPU B you would get 250 fps
no real life usage, don't waste your money

buy a 3000 series if you buy also a 4k screen or plan to get 2 more 1080p screens for surround gaming, or VR.

if you have money to spend, invest in a good sound card and good headphones. the philips fidelio X2HR are phenomenal

Buy some stock in companies that sell monitors

A 1080 monitor might be a little underkill for a 3080, although if it has a high refresh rate you could still take it to your advantage by having a very high frame rate at maxed settings. It would look pretty good, although it still wouldn't be the best because the cpu still has a good portion of work in for itself at 1080p.

I have the same CPU, but my monitor is 1440p 170hz. Will it get the same worst bottleneck?

We'll have to wait to see benchmarks to know for sure.

The 3070 will likely be a good 1440p gpu for most games, the 2070S is really good with 1440P as it is now. But something like Cyberpunk could beg for a 3080 if you want Ultra settings. We'll have to wait and see.

Nope, I think that the 3080 should be perfect for driving that at 1440p.
