Will my video card keep up with this new Cpu

So i have a Inter(r) Plentium(r) dual cpu e2220 @ 2.40 Ghz (2 Cpus) ~2.4 ghz
+ 5 gb of ram

My video card is a ~ Amd radeon hd6450 with 3.2 gb of memory

the only thing slowing me down from playing games smoothly is my cpu according to system requirements lab.

im planing to purchase a - Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo Processor 3 GHz 6 MB Cache Socket LGA775 and im wodering if my video card

will keep up with the new (used) processor (planing on building a new pc soon but just want to run games smoothly for now)

The new CPU will not provide a massive leap in performance. Also, your video card is an entry level model and really is not a gaming card.

You would be better off saving your money and upgrading your entire system. If that isn't an option, getting a stronger video card would help with gaming in most cases more than moving to that CPU.

So, what is your budget? What games do you intend to play? And, what resolution (i.e. 1920x1080) do you plan to game at?

im not trying to run anything to fancy like cod, just trying to run games more smothly ( i can run darksiders ) but its a bit slow... im just wodering if changing my cpu will enhance the performance of the fps + i also enjoy playing css but everyday it keep on geting slower, use to get over 150 fps during the frame test now i get under 80-90 fps) and system requirements lab says its not my video card its my cpu stopping me from running these games smoothly

+ wont be building a pc till like around may.

under $100 ( dont want to waste too much money on this pc)
and 1600x900 (but i dont mind gaming at a lowest resoulution, as i enjoy window mode )

+ does it mater if the cpu is used or new?

As long as the CPU works, it is fine. Just keep in mind, that upgrading to that CPU will only provide a minimal bump in performance. I would guess at no more than 10% (if that) overall.

I recommend you look at upgrading to this sort of video card instead:

Nice choice. Make sure your power supply meets the 400w minimum requirement. Your CPU (even the upgraded one) will bottleneck the video card, but overall gaming performance will improve.
