Will new card damage old machine?

I am trying to find out. I have a Intel Dual Core E2180. Really old I know. A friend gave me a GTX 650 Ti. There is a slot for it on the mainboard, and I have plugged it in and it does work. I have a 550W PS.

My question is, seeing as though this card is so much newer, will using this card on an old board and cpu, damage anything any of the parts or the PC as a whole?

It will not damage it but make sure your psu has a 6pin connector.

The PSU does have a 6 pin. I was just worried that because the CPU and mainboard is old, it's not a good idea. Thanks very much for the help.

Telling us what CPU you have does not tell us what motherboard you have. The motherboard is the important factor here, since that is what the videocard plugs into. If you run a program called Speccy, you will get info on your motherboard.

In the meantime, have you verified that the 650 Ti actually works? It's great a friend gave it to you, but that doesn't mean it works.
