Will new cpu bottleneck future gpu?

I currently have a amd fx6100 cpu with a hd7970 gpu. I plan to build a bulky gaming machine in one year. Is it a good idea to buy now an intel 7700k (with new mb and ram) and wait to buy a 1000$ gpu next year or should I wait and buy all the components at once? With the new 6 cores 8th gen cpu coming and the 10nm cannonlake later, will a 7700k bottleneck next year's top gpus?

Solution

Depends though. For me, if he's only waiting on GPU, it would be okay to scratch together the rest of the PC and then upgrade the GPU, as it's quite easy to upgrade the GPU compared to many other PC parts.

However in this instance, I would recommend waiting until you can upgrade your whole system. Coffee Lake will be out by then, and benchmarks from that will tell whether or not it will be worth it to upgrade to that instead of a 7700k. At the moment, Ryzen is kicking intel's ass across the board, except at 2k+ resolutions. Waiting to pick out all of your parts is the best option here.

Not a good idea to buy kaby lake now due to 8th gen coming out in next 6ish months. Due to AMD competition and i9 processors already in place, the coffee lake chips should be close in price to kaby lake chips.

Best to buy all at once to make the most educated purchasing decision. Not to mention that way you dont have parts on the shelf for 6 months loosing warranty.

7700K is very very fast right now.....

Even *IF* the 8700K somehow defeats it (at 3.7 GHz base clock, I find this doubtful in most games), will the 7700K suddenly become 'slow' by comparison? Or will the 7700K still have it's 15-30% lead in most games at 1080P over Ryzen that it currently has....? Yes...

From a tech standpoint, I hope to be proven wrong; I'd like to see the 8700K OC to 4.8 GHz on all cores, and handily defeat the 7700K at 5 GHz. But, we need to see this first, IMO...

if you're waiting for A YEAR for a new GPU it's not a good idea.
yes, GPUs are quick to switch. nevertheless your CPU is way overpowered for your current GPU and by the time you get a new GPU your CPU might be a bit outdated (like people who bought an i5 last year and a GPU after Ryzen was released)

if the gap is that big, you should buy all essential parts together imo
