Will not start up without windows xp cd in drive

when booting up, computer stops responding at boot up screen. when I install windows xp cd, computer will start up

Go into your bios and change the boot priority so that the hard drive (that your windows operating system is installed on) is the first priority. This shooould be the answer to all of life's questions... >_> If that's not the answer then there may be issues with your windows install in which case I think you can use the xp cd to run the repair utility on your hard drive.
